Budget Overview

{2010-11 Budget} On June 29th, the Board of Education adopted a budget for the 2010-11 school year.  This budget once again includes deep cuts to educational programs, a reduction of five instructional days for the school year and other reductions.  The full detailed District Budget Book should be published for public review on this web page before the end of July.

For more information about the adopted budget click this link: 2010/11 Budget Adoption Presentation 062910.

The San Diego Unified School District has worked diligently over the last year to involve our school communities and the public in the budget development process.  That process offered extensive opportunities for the parents and the general public to share their views about the budget with the Board including five town hall meetings, attended by an average of 200 citizens and residents. See the Podcasts page for recordings of these meetings and news coverage.

Budget History

Over the last three years, California has seen historic reductions in school funding. For the San Diego Unified School District, this means a reduction of nearly 20 percent in school funding over three years -- possibly a drop of one-quarter in four years -- while the enrollment has increased by nearly 2 percent. That's a reduction of $270 million.
